5 Reasons to Feed Your Family Organic (and 7 Easy Ways to Do So)

Organic is healthier, right?

Organic is healthier, right? That's why you and your kids should be eating organic. But is it really worth the added cost to feed your family organically? Though a study out last Fall suggested that, kids might not be healthier due to an organic diet one of the key doctors of the study, Dr. Joel Forman of the Mount Sinai Children's Environmental Health Center is convinced that developing brains are vulnerable to chemical exposure, and that eating organically can reduce their risk of coming in contact with pesticides.

I was lucky enough to hear Dr. Forman speak about the benefits of organic eating at the Mount Sinai Greening Our Children luncheon this week (I was a guest of The Honest Company, as Jessica Alba was being honored with the organization's Champion for Children Award). His reasoning, and easy tips for doing so, were enough to make me change my shopping habits. Keep reading for five reasons to ditch pesticide-ridden food and seven steps you can take to make healthier shopping choices.

Jessica Alba Dishes on The Honest Company's Newest Products and the Diaper Design She Insisted on Using

Jessica Alba isn't slowing down one bit as her eco-friendly baby and household cleaning product company, The Honest Company, enters its sophomore year of operation.

Jessica Alba isn't slowing down one bit as her eco-friendly baby and household cleaning product company, The Honest Company, enters its sophomore year of operation. The mom of two — Honor, 4, and Haven, 1 — has spent the past few months introducing new products for the company and promoting her bestselling guide to healthy and chic living, The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You. On the final day of her publicity tour, she headed up to Greenwich, CT, to receive the Champion For Children Award from the Mount Sinai Hospital Children's Environmental Health Center.

It was there that Jessica and the company's cofounder, Christopher Gavigan, spilled the beans to POPSUGAR about the next area they'll enter: the health and wellness arena. At the end of the month, Honest will introduce organic toothpaste and organic vitamins (both prenatal and children's versions), two products that grew out of their own children's needs. Jessica explained, "I was given prescription prenatals from my OB, and not only were they crazy expensive, no matter how many samples he gave me, every one of them made me nauseous." Her new vitamins are free of artificial colors, scents, and flavors (they're flavored with real fruits) and kid-tested (and approved).

Here are some more highlights from the conversation.

Jessica on why she focuses on Honest diapers' design: "I think cute-factor is so important when you're looking at the little booger all day long!"

Jessica on how involved she is with the diapers' designs: "I'm really nitpicky. . . . That's where I was like, 'I'm obsessed with Alexander McQueen, he made skulls beautiful, we have to put skulls on a diaper.' And my partners were like, 'You're crazy; nobody's going to buy that!' And I'm like, 'Are you kidding me? Just try it!' It ended up being like our No. 1 diaper!"

Jessica on her favorite diaper design: "I'm really into the strawberries right now. I always loved Strawberry Shortcake, and [Haven's] a little ginger, so the strawberries look really cute on her."

The Muppets Star in Tommy Hilfiger's Latest Capsule Collection

When it comes to all American, few brands are more red, white, and blue than Tommy Hilfiger.

When it comes to all American, few brands are more red, white, and blue than Tommy Hilfiger. The iconic designer has fashioned an entire business around classic American style. That's probably why it's no surprise that Tommy Hilfiger just launched a second capsule collection with Disney featuring some of the most popular American characters of all time — the Muppets.

The limited-edition Spring/Summer collection — which just became available at Tommy Hilfiger and Macy's stores, as well as online at Children's Salon — includes an adorable collection of t-shirts and sweatshirts featuring the images of Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, and more wearing selected fashions from the designer's Spring/Summer 2013 collection. The pieces are sized for tots from 6 months to 16 years old.

In a cute statement, Miss Piggy described working with the famed designer, saying, "Moi adores working with Tommy on the Muppets collection. Not only is he talented, elegant, and gracious, but he does all the work. All moi has to do is tell him what I think about the designs and Tommy takes care of all of it! Isn't that fabulous? Kermie also loves working with Tommy." She appropriately added, "I love the pieces with moi — they're so stylish, so now, so moi. I also love the designs featuring Kermie and moi — and especially the top that reads 'Miss Piggy 4 Kermit.' It never hurts to advertise your intentions, n'est ce pas?" We couldn't agree more, Miss Piggy!

10 Safe Sunscreens For Kids (Including Some You Can Find at Your Drugstore)

Slather on the lotion!

Slather on the lotion! If you thought the breast vs. bottle debate was polarizing, wait until you talk to fellow playground moms about sunscreen. Though lotions and sticks protect little ones' skin from cancer-causing UVA and UVB rays, doctors advise new mamas to use physical barriers — SPF clothing, umbrellas, and shades — rather than lotions on babies younger than 6 months old.

Once tots reach the six-month mark, keep them protected from the sun without harming them in other ways. The Environmental Working Group just released its recommendations for the best sunscreens for tots — seeking out products that do not contain potential hormone disruptors. The group recommends staying away from spray-on lotions and powders, as well as those containing oxybenzone or vitamin A. Tops on their list are sunscreens using zinc or titanium for the best UVA/UVB protection without the use of such harmful chemicals. Click through to see 10 of their top picks (which includes many that can be found at your local drugstore — not just at specialty stores).

Turn Vintage Tea Towels Into Sweet Sundresses For Warm Summer Days

Little girls and linen sundresses are a sure sign that Summer's arrived.

Little girls and linen sundresses are a sure sign that Summer's arrived. But what if you could actually make your little one's sweet dress yourself? And what if you could make it out of a beautiful tea towel you found at your favorite home store — or better yet, an antique one packed away in a box somewhere? It's an easier project than you would think.

Inspired by her granddaughter, Jude, and some vintage towels she had stacked away in her attic, Martha Stewart and her staff at Martha Stewart Living created five simple patterns that require little more than a sewing machine to create. These no-zipper, no-snap projects (they just require a button or two and some bias tape for the most intricate of the patterns) are so adorable, that like Martha, you won't mind giving new life to antique fabric that can be enjoyed by a new generation. Click through to see the designs up close and get the patterns, which can also be found in the June issue of the magazine.

Hard Rock Hotel Chicago Launches Nursing Mothers Amenity Program With Medela

Traveling while breastfeeding doesn't have be an impossible combination.

Traveling while breastfeeding doesn't have be an impossible combination. Though nursing while flying may be a bit tricky, mamas who must travel without their tots don't have to worry about lugging a pump with them when traveling to Chicago anymore. In what appears to be the first program of its kind, Hard Rock Hotel Chicago and Medela launched the Nursing Mothers Amenity Program yesterday. For $30, participants in the program will receive a hospital-grade Symphony breastpump and a breastfeeding Accessory Starter Set, which includes Medela's Micro Steam Bags, Quick Clean Wipes, Pump and Save Bags, and disposable bra pads when they check into the hotel. The program also provides nursing moms with in-room refrigerators, microwaves, ice packs, cooler bags for transporting the milk, and staff trained to support nursing moms with services like FedExing milk back home.

Nursing moms isn't necessarily the first thing I thought of when I heard Hard Rock Hotel — images of Michael Jackson's leather jackets and autographed guitars were the first thing that came to mind — but it may be time to switch up my thinking. The Nursing Mothers Amenity Program, which will donate the proceeds of the fee to benefit local families with children in Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago through The Jackson Chance Foundation, may be the nursing working mom's new best friend! What do you think?

Summer hasn't even started yet, but we've already got our eye on Fall after previewing The Land of Nod's upcoming collection of delectable room furnishings. The Fall 2013 collection, which will be in stores (and online) in July, is filled with new furniture pieces — many of which take a sharp and exciting turn from the retailer's usually eclectic fare.

Among the most exciting things to come out of the line is a new collaboration with NYC-based contemporary furniture designer Ducduc. The Ducduc for Nod collection will include custom cribs and case pieces designed just for the retailer (at a fraction of the brand's regular cost, natch!). Other key finds include a handwoven wicker headboard, a variety of nightstands, and lots of geometric shapes spread throughout the collection. Keep reading to see some Fall picks, and tell us: which are you craving?
